<p>Kundalini Yoga is an explicitly spiritual practice of yoga using groups of exercises (known as Kriyas) to develop consciousness and understanding of oneself, because of this it is suitable for all abilities. You are encouraged to do each exercise at the level that is right for you, which may be as simple as visualising yourself taking part. The effects of physical exercise and meditation are enhanced by the use of chanting, making this a powerful and rapid acting form of yoga. Notes on the Kriyas and meditations practiced in the workshop are provided for practice at home and the<br />
workshop format allows time for questions and discussion.</p>
<p>Katy is a KRI Level 1 teacher of Kundalini Yoga certified and insured by the Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association, which in turn is accredited by IKYTA and KRI.<br />

<p><span style="font-size: small;color: #000000">Mindfulness practice gives us the gift of coming back to the present moment in all its fullness. On this Mindfulness Yoga day you will experience a variety of mindful meditations including: mindfulness of body and breath, mindfulness of feelings, mountain meditation, and the body scan practice. The meditation practices will be interspersed with mindful and meditative yoga sessions.</p>
<p>The day will give you a chance to relax and nurture yourself. The Mindful Yoga practices and meditations will encourage self-discovery, openesss, curiosity, and cultivating compassion and kindness toward ourselves and others.</p>
<p>The day would be a good way to start a Mindfulness practice or a way to deepen and develop your existing meditation practice. Advice will be given on developing your own Mindfulness Yoga practice.</p>
<p>This course would be suitable for students of all levels, although not complete beginners.</p>
<p>Please bring: your yoga mat, blocks if used (chairs will be available), a warm blanket, and slim cushion (If used) for relaxation; pen and paper; a packed lunch. Hot drinks and biscuits will be provided by tutor.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You might have heard the recent news about a book explaining how &#8216;<a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_9693000/9693928.stm" target="_blank">Yoga can kill you</a>&#8216;. Well that press release title certainly got everyone&#8217;s interest&#8230; despite the fact that the point the author was making was that it is bad teaching of Yoga that can damage you (I&#8217;ll save my rant about headlines that don&#8217;t bear any resemblence to content for another day).</p>
<p>If you are concerned about my credentials&#8230;..I studied for four years in order to gain my Yoga Teaching qualification (not everyone on the course qualified) and I have a degree in Zoology, and a certificate in Personal Training. I&#8217;ve done Yoga for 20 years. I&#8217;ve taught for nearly ten years. I&#8217;ve done Yoga to prepare for childbirth and I have also modified Yoga to help me recover from FOUR major surgeries. So please don&#8217;t worry, I&#8217;m not going to kill you. At least not during a Yoga Class <img src='http://yogaspirit.co.uk/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline">New Relaxation Class in Shrewsbury</span></strong></p>
<p>Local Yoga teacher, Catharine Hinton, is launching a new relaxation class in Shrewsbury Town Centre on Wednesday 22<sup>nd</sup> February.  The hour long class, which starts at 8.45pm, is aimed at busy people who feel they need to relax more or overcome physical problems associated with tension.</p>
<p>“One of the most frequent pieces of feedback I get from my students is that they have a great night’s sleep after my Yoga class” says Catharine, who gained her teaching diploma after four years of study with the British Wheel of Yoga. “I wanted to offer a class that had all the calming benefits of Yoga but which was suitable for people who don’t want to do strenuous postures and sequences”.</p>
<p>With the Health and Safety Executive reporting that “Nearly half a million people (442 000) in Britain report work related stress at a level they believe is making them ill” Catharine has deliberately chosen to offer the class at this later evening time to enable people who work to attend the class.</p>
<p>Held at the town’s historic Lion Hotel, on Wyle Cop, the class features a mix of techniques all practised by Catharine and the six week course costs just £30.00. <p>If you have booked on the Traditional classes you can add the evening revival and relaxation classes for just £15.00 for the full course.</p>
<p>If you would like to drop in on both the yoga class and relaxation class, that will cost you just £11.00, saving you £2.00.</p>
<p><strong>Swapsies</strong></p>
<p>If you are booked on one of the courses but you can’t attend at that time you may come to the other class held that evening. Please note, this is only allowed occasionally, and you must get prior consent from me.</p>

<p><strong>Directions</strong></p>
<p>If you are approaching Shrewsbury from the South or East, you will pass the town&#8217;s famous Abbey and cross the English Bridge before coming to Wyle Cop &#8211; the hotel is at the top of the hill.</p>
<p>If coming from the North or West, you can follow the signs for the town centre &#8211; the one-way system will guide yo to Wyle Cop, with the hotel opposite the T-junction.</p>
<p>The Lion has car parking, however there is also on-street parking available and  St Julian Friars also provides excellent parking facilities for busy times.</p>
<p>If arriving by rail, the station is a short ten-minute walk from the hotel. Follow Castle Street up and round to the left on to St Mary&#8217;s Street, then down to Wyle Cop.</p>

Here are the details of the next workshop:</p>
<p>For those of you who’ve got classes in the Shrewsbury area could you kindly pass the details of Lis Wharton’s free workshop on Sunday December 4th to your students. The day is designed for ordinary members and class students, but if places aren’t filled then teachers are free to come. There’s a £10 fee for non members. The day is entitled &#8216;The gifts of Yoga&#8217;. And Lis will be discussing the therapeutic benefits of practicing Yoga on body, mind and spirit. There’ll be a physical practice in the morning, a bring and share vegetarian lunch and mindfulness, pranayama and a Yoga Nidra in the afternoon.
